Monkey swings 8 km Hike
This event is an 8 km hike near George in the Western Cape at the foot of the Outeniqua mountain range. The route gains approximately 270 m of elevation and typically takes about 3.5 to 4 hours to complete. The organiser rates the hike 5/10 and notes that participants should be reasonably fit and strong.
The route passes through fynbos, forest and mountain scenery and visits the Monkey swings and the Arch dam, where an optional swim is possible. The meeting point is the Trail Kiosk in Van Riebeeck Gardens on Camphersdrift Street at the top of Arbour Road in George.
Compulsory items listed for participants include a suitable lightweight hydration pack or hip pouch, water, sunscreen, headwear, suitable non-slip off-road shoes (normal road running shoes are not suitable), snacks, a lightweight windproof jacket, a fleece or midlayer as needed, and personal emergency items such as bandages and blister plasters. Optional items mentioned include fingerless gloves, hiking poles, a beanie, buffs and sunglasses.
