Monkey Butt Mayhem
Monkey Butt Mayhem is a timed trail event on the Cross Timbers Hiking Trail north of Dallas, Texas. The event centers on Monkey Butt Hill, a steep section that climbs 100 feet in 1/10 of a mile, roughly a 20 percent grade. The hill sits about one tenth of a mile from the Juniper Point West trailhead.
Participants may choose between multiple formats:
- 3 hour hill repeat format
- 6 hour hill repeat format
- 5 mile out and back single track along the Lake Texoma shore
The hill repeat loop measures about one third of a mile and includes the 1/10 mile, 100 foot climb. Each loop equals 100 feet of vertical gain and patches are awarded based on accumulated vertical gain; patches can be affixed to the event hat using heat transfer. The 6 hour course record is 73 repeats, which the event lists as 24 miles and 7,300 feet of elevation gain.
The event is limited to 60 entries. The entrant item for 2025 is a custom BOCO running trucker hat with the Monkey Butt Mayhem logo, and the finisher medal features the event monkey. Aid on course includes a cookie only station. The event notes provisions for crewing every one third mile and spectator access near the water.
