Event Overview
The Moms' Run is a community event held on Mother's Day in Somerville, Massachusetts. It has been a tradition since 2003. The Pilotte family and the Somerville Road Runners organize the event, which includes a 5k run and a 5k walk. There is also a separate kids' run. The primary location for the event is the George Dilboy VFW Post 529 in Davis Square, Somerville.
Course Details
The course for the 5k run and walk starts at the Dilboy VFW. Participants head southeast to Willow Avenue, turn left, then right onto Highland Avenue. The route continues with a right turn onto Vinal Avenue, near the Somerville Public Library, and finishes with a right turn onto Summer Street, which includes a hill climb, before returning to the VFW. The kids' run uses a shorter route that finishes at the same start/finish line.
Registration and Logistics
The standard entry fee is $35, increasing to $40 on race day if the event has not sold out. The fee for the kids' run is $5, and participants must be accompanied by a registered adult. The first 400 non-kids registrants are guaranteed a dri-fit tank top. Bib and shirt pick-up is available on two days prior to the event and on race morning at the VFW location. Bag check is provided at the venue. Public transit is recommended as parking in Davis Square is limited.
Post-Race and Charitable Focus
A post-race party takes place at the George Dilboy VFW Post 529 immediately following the 5k event, featuring food and drinks from local sponsors. Since its inception, the event has raised over $250,000 for cancer research, specifically for the Claudia Adams Barr Program at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three overall finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
