Mohawk Mountain Race : overview
The Mohawk Mountain Race is organized by Steep Endurance and takes place at Mohawk Mountain Ski Area in Cornwall, Connecticut on October 12. The event offers multiple distance options:
- 5K
- 10K
- Half Marathon
- Marathon
Portions of the Half Marathon and Marathon courses run on the rolling trails of Mohawk State Forest. The Half Marathon distance is part of the Blue Blazed Trail Running Series in Connecticut. Entry fees range from $30 to $90 depending on distance and registration date. The event has a no-refund, no-transfer policy for race entries.
Course, aid and logistics
The 5K is a single loop that uses ski-mountain trails including the Wildwood Trail, Timber Trail, Pine, Laurel and Deer Run, Victor’s Way, Route 100 and Ledges, finishing down the Mohawk Trail. The 10K is two loops of the 5K course. The Half Marathon combines one 5K loop plus additional miles in Mohawk State Forest; the Marathon is two Half Marathon loops. Aid stations will include water and electrolyte drink at the start/finish and at least one to two additional stations for Half and Marathon runners. The race is cupless; runners must carry their own hydration bottle, pack or cup. Finishers receive a specially designed medal from Ragged Cuts and additional swag; awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers in each race. Race headquarters is near the Nutmeg Triple Chair Lift and parking is in the main lot in front of the lodge. Pre-packaged food and canned beverages are provided after the race; alcoholic beverages are not provided but BYOB is permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
