Lake Waramaug Polar Bear Run - 42nd Annual (February 28, 2027)
The Lake Waramaug Polar Bear Run is an annual winter road race held around Lake Waramaug. The main course is a 7.8 mile loop that travels counterclockwise along the lake shoreline and passes through the towns of Washington, Warren and Kent. The route is primarily flat with a few gentle rolling hills; the final 0.2 miles ascend Hopkins Hill to the finish at Hopkins Vineyard.
TrailHeads organizes and sponsors the event with support from more than 75 volunteers. The Run operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and lists Guiding Eyes for the Blind as its charitable beneficiary. Since 2018 the event has raised over $57,000 for that organization. The race is limited to 700 participants.
Awards are given to the top three male and top three female finishers, with first place overall receiving a $100 TrailHeads gift card and a bottle of wine from Hopkins Vineyard. Age group awards are presented for the top three in each category: 18 & under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 & over. Walkers may register to walk the course and there is an option for an earlier start for walkers.
Registration information and participant logistics are provided by the organizers. The start and finish are located at Hopkins Vineyard. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
