Event Overview
The Moccasin Ultra Fest is a timed trail running event held at the Wolf River Refuge Trailhead in Memphis, Tennessee. The event takes place over a 36-hour period, starting on December 31 and concluding on January 1. Participants navigate a fast and flat 4-mile loop along the scenic Wolf River Trails.
Course and Format
The race is held on a repetitive 4-mile circuit. Runners may complete as many laps as they choose within the 36-hour time limit. The format allows participants to manage their own pace and schedule; individuals may stay on the course continuously, rest at their personal setups, or leave the site and return later. The course features illuminated trails, glowing bridges, and holiday decorations during the night hours. A bonfire is maintained at the start and finish area.
Awards and Recognition
Participants receive awards based on the total distance completed:
- 4 miles: Finisher medal
- 52 to 99 miles: 52+ Mile Buckle
- 100 miles: 100-Mile Buckle
- 100 miles in under 24 hours: Exclusive Sub-24 Hour 100-Mile Buckle
Cash prizes of $500 are awarded to the top male and top female who record the highest total mileage.
Facilities and Regulations
A single fully manned aid station is located at the start and finish line, providing a variety of food, snacks, and warm drinks such as soup and coffee. The station includes a heated canopy with seating. Runners are permitted to bring 10x10 canopy tents to set up along the course. Trekking poles and headphones are allowed, while pacers are prohibited. Participants must record their own progress on a results board after each lap.
