Event overview

The Miocene Epic Endurance Challenge is a trail race on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay at Calvert Cliffs State Park in Lusby, Maryland. The 8th annual event is run on a loop of about 5 miles. Runners have up to six hours to complete as many loops as they choose. The event is offered both in person and as a virtual option; virtual participants receive the same event swag and finishers items by mail.

Logistics and services

Each loop begins and ends at the picnic pavilion. Runners may park in any available space within Calvert Cliffs State Park and are responsible for the park entry fee of $5 for Maryland residents or $7 for non-Maryland residents. Registration closes on Thu, Mar 19.

All in-person and virtual entrants receive a Miocene Epic premium item and a swag bag. Runners completing 50k or more receive a Miocene trilobite medal. Aid stations are stocked on every loop with sweets, salty snacks, drinks, and breakfast foods such as pancakes, fried potatoes, bacon, and fruit. A hot post-run meal has been provided in past years. Podium awards are given to the top three men and top three women in the 6-hour open category, plus age-group awards. The organizer allows space for personal tents, chairs, and coolers between loops.

If the in-person event is cancelled, entrants will be placed into the virtual event. Refund and cancellation terms apply; ordinary cancellations 30 days or more receive the entry fee minus $30, cancellations less than 30 days do not receive a refund.
