About the race
Mingus Mayhem takes place November 14 in Mingus Park, Coos Bay. The event is run on a 1.12 mile loop inside the park, with runners completing repeated laps. There are two event-length options: a nine hour option and a two hour option. The loop is roughly 70% unpaved and is described as basically car free, though a vehicle or two may appear on the park entrance road.
The course is smooth but not flat; each lap includes a quarter-mile trail section that climbs about 140 feet. The park and course include two flush toilets and a covered gazebo that is used as a base camp. The event is free. Organizers will provide a water jug but participants are expected to bring their own supplies and fuel.
A course map is available on Strava. The description notes the event can serve a range of goals, from a first ultra to a 50th ultra, and also the shorter two hour afternoon option as an alternative.
