MindOverMoors - Twin Falls 50K
The Twin Falls 50K is a winter trail ultra starting and finishing at Goathland Village Hall. The route climbs onto the North York Moors then descends into the woodland of Falling Foss, where runners pass a prominent waterfall. The course joins sections of the Mulgrave Way, winds through ancient woodland and the Mulgrave Estate, and passes the ruins of Mulgrave Castle. Runners then climb inland for views across the North Yorkshire coastline and moorland before entering the wooded valley of Beck Hole and passing Mallyan Spout Waterfall on the return to Goathland.
The course was designed for winter conditions and uses sheltered woodland, valleys and forest trails to reduce exposure to the elements. Navigation is supported by clear waymarking, a published Strava route and an on-course tracker system that allows others to follow progress.
There are four checkpoints on the route, one indoor checkpoint with hot food and some checkpoints with toilets. Checkpoint provisions include soft drinks and food with vegan and gluten free options; free tea, coffee and cake are available at the start and finish. Entry benefits include medals for all finishers, bespoke trophies for male and female podium finishers, a voucher for first male and female, trophies for first M/F in the 50, 60 and 70 age categories, and optional event T-shirt and hoodie.
Practical details: parking is available in the village with two car parks subject to charges. Safety measures include multiple first aiders, first aid kits at checkpoints, trackers and clear retirement procedures. Mandatory kit lists include a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hat and gloves, spare base layer, capacity to carry 500 ml fluid, head torch, a fully charged phone, survival bag and whistle. Refunds and transfers are permitted up to four weeks before the event via the entry system with a 90% refund. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
