Mimosas for Marrow 5K - Wilmington, DE
The Mimosas for Marrow 5K is an annual community run/walk presented by Oakley Overcomes, Inc. in Wilmington at Catherine Rooney's, 1616 Delaware Avenue. The event supports families affected by blood cancers and disorders and honors people seeking lifesaving bone marrow matches.
The event was created by local parents after their child received a lifesaving bone marrow transplant in 2022. The transplant came through a matched donor registered with the national marrow program, and the child later completed an extended hospital recovery.
Over its first three years the event has drawn more than 2,000 participants, secured strong business support, involved many volunteers, raised over $76,000, and added 56 potential bone marrow donors to the registry, including two who have already saved lives. Event features include a post-race party at Catherine Rooney's, free mimosa for those 21 and older, live entertainment, food, face painting, characters, a photobooth, raffles, and a bounce house. Awards are given for overall and masters finishers and for top three in each age group, with age categories from 9 and under through 70 plus. Race shirts are limited to the first 600 registrants.
