Mighty Mountain Run
The Mighty Mountain Run is a trail race held at Camp Caraway in Sophia, North Carolina. This event serves as a fundraiser to support scholarship funds for children to attend various camp programs, including day camps and family retreats. The course routes navigate through the property of the Caraway Conference Center and Camps, located in the Northern Uwharrie Mountains.
Participants can choose from two distinct distances:
- 5K: A course featuring rolling hills, gravel, asphalt, and forest trails passing near creeks and lakes.
- 10K: A route including two mountain climbs with a total elevation gain of approximately 350 to 400 feet.
The 10K distance involves varied surfaces such as gravel roads, single-track dirt trails, and rocky sections. It traverses Orchard Mountain and Longarm Ridge, reaching elevations over 900 feet. The route includes a passage across an 80-foot rock face and provides 180-degree views from the summit. While the 5K is open to both runners and walkers, the 10K is intended for those who plan to run or use a mix of running and walking.
All participants receive professional chip timing and a medal upon completion. Trophies are given to top finishers, and additional awards are provided for top age group placements. Snacks and giveaways are available at the conclusion of the event, and a race t-shirt is included for those who register by the designated early deadline.
