Course, facilities and rules

The swim is in Mississinewa Reservoir with a beach time-trial (TT) start; buoys mark turns and an optional mass start is available. The bike uses quiet, paved county roads with mostly flat profiles and a few minor hills; the Half Iron bike is run as multiple laps. The run is an out-and-back on a smooth paved park path. Aid stations are located near transition and roughly every mile on the run; there are no aid stations on the bike course. Helmets meeting CPSC standards are required for the bike, and personal audio devices are prohibited. Wetsuit use follows USAT temperature rules. Transition procedures, body marking, chip pickup, and race number rules are enforced. Contingency plans include converting to duathlon or other race formats if swim or bike segments are unsafe.
