Event Details
The Mighty Mississinewa Triathlon takes place at the Miami State Recreation Area in Peru, Indiana. It is a USAT-sanctioned event. Participants must be aged 12 and up by December 31 of the race year.
Distances and Formats
The event features three triathlon distances:
- Sprint Triathlon: 500-yard swim, 12.5-mile bike, 3.1-mile run.
- Olympic Triathlon: 1500-meter swim (two laps), 25-mile bike, 6.2-mile run.
- Half Iron Triathlon: 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run.
There are also duathlon and aquabike options for the Sprint and Olympic distances. Relay teams of two or three people are available for the Sprint and Olympic triathlons. Total participation is limited to 1000 racers.
Course Information
The swim takes place in the Mississinewa Reservoir. Participants start from the beach, and the course is marked with buoys. The water temperature typically allows for wetsuit use. The bike course is described as flat and uses quiet county roads with smooth pavement. Traffic is managed by officials at key intersections. The run course is an out-and-back route on a paved, flat trail within the park.
Race Day Information
Registration and packet pickup occur only on race day. The transition area opens for bike and gear setup in the morning. A mandatory pre-race meeting is held before the start. The event is professionally chip-timed, with live results available online.
Participants receive a race t-shirt, and all finishers receive a medal. Aid stations on the run course, located approximately every mile and at the transition area, provide water, Gatorade, and Coke.
