Event Overview
The Firecracker 5K is an annual Independence Day running event held in Peru, Indiana. For its 22nd edition, the race takes place on July 4, 2026. The event starts and finishes at the Peru Fire Department located on West Canal Street.
The race utilizes disposable tag timing to provide accurate results for all participants. Those who register by the specified late-June deadline are guaranteed a performance shirt and a grab bag. Post-race amenities include food for the runners and a drawing for a Garmin Forerunner device. All registered participants receive one entry into the drawing, with early registrants receiving an additional entry.
Competition and Categories
Awards are presented to the overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three finishers in several age divisions. Age groups range from 14 and younger up to 70 and older. In addition to athletic performance, the event features a category for the most patriotic participants.
Proceeds from the event support the Miami County YMCA, focusing on community health and youth development programs.
