Michigan Humane Tailgate Run

The Michigan Humane Tailgate is a community event held at Roosevelt Park in Corktown, Detroit. Starting and finishing at the Michigan Central Station, the event offers courses that traverse Southwest Detroit, including Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park and sections of the Joe Louis Greenway and Southwest Detroit Greenway.

Participants can choose from the following distances:

  • 5K
  • 1 Mile

The event is animal-friendly, allowing participants to register and run or walk alongside their dogs. The 5K is open to adults and youth aged 0-12, with a specific wave for those running with dogs. The 1 Mile Mutt March is a fundraising walk also open to adults, youth, and participants with dogs.

The event grounds host a variety of activities throughout the day, including the Mike Morse Law Firm Meet Your Best Friend adoption event featuring nearly 100 animals. Other amenities include food trucks, a beer garden, live music, dog contests, and field games. Registered participants receive an event T-shirt, a sponsor gift bag, and a finisher medal. Awards are presented to top overall finishers in categories for men, women, youth, and dogs.

Proceeds from the event and associated fundraising efforts support Michigan Humane's animal rescue, sheltering, and pet food distribution programs in Southeast Michigan. Early packet pick-up is available on the Friday preceding the main event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
