Mercer County Twilight QUAD : Ice Cream Race (Event 4)
The Ice Cream Race is the fourth event in the Mercer County Twilight QUAD, a summer Wednesday evening running series now in its 43rd year. The series is described as the oldest continuous running series in the region and has recorded over 50,000 finishers through the first 140 events. Runners who complete all four QUAD events receive a commemorative award; each year more than 150 runners and walkers complete the full series. Specialty QUAD shirts are sold on site on a first come first serve basis.
This event takes place in Grove City at the First Baptist Church parking lot across from Grove City Medical Center, 71 Cranberry Rd, Grove City, PA 16127. The Ice Cream Race course is 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) and runs out and back on a rolling route with a gradual half mile downhill finish. All 5K events in the series are chip timed with timing mats at miles 1, 2, and 3 to provide split times.
All events include a children's half mile run held during the evening. Each child participant receives a finisher's ribbon and there are age group awards for the boys and girls divisions. The 5K has standard age group awards and top finishing categories for overall and masters. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
