Ice Cream Race - QUAD 4 (Courtney's Ice Cream Race)
The Ice Cream Race is the fourth event in the Mercer County Twilight QUAD, a long-running summer series entering its 43rd anniversary. The series is described as the region's oldest continuous running series, with more than 50,000 finishers recorded through the first 140 events. Runners who complete all four QUAD events receive a commemorative award; typically over 150 runners and walkers complete all four each year.
The Ice Cream Race takes place in Grove City at the First Baptist Church parking lot across from Grove City Medical Center, 71 Cranberry Rd. The 5K course is an out-and-back, rolling route with a gradual half mile downhill finish.
Distances:
- 5,000 meters (3.1 miles)
- Half mile children's run
Awards and services follow a consistent format across the QUAD events. 5K age groups run from 11 & under up to 70+, with top 5 male and top 5 female overall finishers and top masters recognized. Top 3 finishers are awarded in each age group. All 5K events are chip timed with timing mats at miles 1, 2, and 3 to provide split times; a digital clock display and timing services are provided.
Entry details note a base 5K fee of $20 until 24 hours prior to race time and $25 on race day. Children's entry fee is $10 and each child receives a finisher ribbon. Specialty QUAD shirts are sold on site on a first come first serve basis and shirts are available for purchase at events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
