Mental Health Matters 5K & Festival
The Mental Health Matters 5K is a community-oriented event held at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, North Carolina. The event is designed to create awareness for mental health and well-being through physical activity and social connection. Participants can choose between different participation options depending on their age and preference:
- 5K
- Kids Fun Run
- Sleep-in-Supporter
The 5K race is open to the general public, while the Kids Fun Run is specifically designed for children under the age of 12 and individuals of all abilities who prefer a shorter distance. This shorter course is accessible for wheelchairs, personal guides, and support animals. Registration for these events includes a participant shirt and a finisher medal. For those who cannot attend in person but wish to support the cause, a Sleep-in-Supporter option is available.
Following the running events, a community festival takes place on-site. The post-race festival features local small businesses and provides resources related to mental health and well-being. Activities at the festival include food trucks, a petting zoo, yoga sessions, and acupuncture. The event serves as a platform to support local vendors and centralize resources for the Charlotte community. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
