Mendip Aurora
Mendip Aurora is a night trail run held at the Mendip Activity Centre in Churchill, North Somerset. It is the first event in the Dark Skies Series and uses the activity centre grounds and Sandford Quarry to create a traffic free trail course. The route is a 5 km lap; the 10 km race is two laps of the same course. The course is undulating and includes some climbs and more technical trail sections.
Safety and kit requirements are stated for the event. All runners must wear a head or chest torch with at least 250 lumens. Trail running shoes are strongly advised. Runners under 16 must run with a supervising adult; 16 and 17 year olds may run solo with parental consent. Dogs may not compete.
Practical details provided for the event include on site parking at the Mendip Activity Centre car parks, water at the event hub and finish, and toilet facilities near the main reception and the Alpine Lounge Cafe. The Alpine Lounge Cafe will be open during the event. Trained first aiders will be on site and on the route. Finish photos are taken automatically by a camera system and finisher medals are available as an optional purchase; medal sales close eight days before the event.
