Event Overview
The Memorial Day Salute at Springdale Cemetery is a 9th annual running event that includes a 5K run/walk and a 1 mile untimed run/walk. The event takes place at Glen Oak Park in Peoria, Illinois, on Memorial Day.
Distances & Registration
Participants can choose from two distances:
- A timed 5K run/walk.
- An untimed 1 mile run/walk.
The first 200 registrants receive a race packet. Event shirts are available while supplies last through registration. For the 5K, kids 12 and under can register for a reduced rate. The event is organized by and benefits the Illinois Valley Fuller Center for Housing.
Course & Logistics
The 5K course starts and finishes along the boulevard in Lower Glen Oak Park. A map for the 1 mile course is noted as coming soon. Parking is available at the Woodruff Career & Technical Center on NE Perry Ave.
Packet pickup is available the Friday before the event at RC Outfitters and on race day at Lower Glen Oak Park. Timing and scoring for the 5K is managed by ShaZam Racing.
Awards
Awards are given for the 5K in several categories:
- Overall top male and female (gun time).
- Overall Veteran top male and female (gun time, with double-dipping allowed).
- Age group awards for top male and female in eight categories (net time).
A separate $100 cash prize is awarded for the "Most Patriotic Outfit." Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
