Memorial Day Salute at Springdale Cemetery
The Memorial Day Salute at Springdale Cemetery is an annual athletic event held in Peoria, Illinois. Now in its 9th year, the event takes place in the vicinity of Glen Oak Park and is organized by the Illinois Valley Fuller Center for Housing. The proceedings benefit veterans through fundraising and community participation.
The event features two primary distances for participants:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1 Mile Run/Walk (Untimed)
The 5K course begins and ends along the boulevard in Lower Glen Oak Park. This portion of the event is timed and scored by ShaZam Racing. Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top male and female veteran participants. Age group awards are also available for several categories ranging from 12 and under to 70 and over.
The 1 Mile option is an untimed course designed for both runners and walkers. Participants are encouraged to wear patriotic attire, with a cash prize available for the most patriotic outfit. Race packets are provided to the first 200 registrants, and event shirts are available while supplies last during the registration period.
