MD Heat Trail Race is an all‑trail event held at the Patapsco Pickall Area, 8125 Johnnycake Rd, Elkridge, MD. Distances offered include:
- 50K - two loops of the 25k course
- 25K - single loop course
The course is primarily rolling single track with more than 2000 ft of vertical gain and a couple of significant climbs. Runners will encounter two river crossings, some very technical rocky sections, and other smooth runnable stretches. There is a very short paved section through a parking area; otherwise the route is off pavement. The course includes three out‑and‑back sections, including a climb to Valley Overlook where athletes pick up wrist bands required for an official finish.
Aid stations are placed at approximately 2 miles, 5.25 miles, 8 miles, 11.5 miles, and 16 miles. Each aid station will offer Tailwind, water, and real food items; gels and similar packaged fuel will not be provided by the event.
Parking is adjacent to the pavilions and start/finish area but spots are limited. Bathrooms are located next to the pavilions and finish area. The finish area includes sheltered pavilions, water, and food and beverage service during the after party, which features craft beer and prepared food.
For the 50K, athletes complete two loops and must pick up a wrist band at Valley Overlook on each loop to be credited with a finish. Competitors who complete the first loop after 12:00 PM are not permitted to begin the second loop. Registration closes Fri, Aug 14 at 8:00 PM ET. Organizers welcome volunteers to support the event.
