MD Heat Trail Race
The MD Heat Trail Race takes place on Saturday, Aug 15, 2026, in the Patapsco Pickall Area in Elkridge, MD (Shelter #707, 8125 Johnnycake Rd). The event offers trail races held on single track with varied terrain and is organized around a central start/finish area with pavilions and nearby restrooms.
Distances
- 50K
- 25K
Course
The course is all trail with rolling single track, two river crossings, and a very short paved section through a parking area. Runners will encounter more than 2000 ft of vertical gain and a couple of significant climbs. Some sections are very technical and rocky, while others are smooth and runnable. The layout includes three out-and-back sections; one leads to Valley Overlook, a view above the valley where competitors must pick up a wrist band.
Aid stations and finish
Aid stations are located at approximately 2.0, 5.25, 8.0, 11.5, and 16.0 miles. Stations provide Tailwind, water, and real food options (no gels provided). At the finish there is food, beer, access to bathrooms, water, and shelter under two large pavilions.
50K specifics and logistics
The 50K is two loops of the 25K course and uses the same aid stations. Competitors must collect a wrist band at Valley Overlook on each loop to be credited with a finish. Organizers allow about 5 hours per loop; competitors who exceed that time on the first loop cannot begin a second loop. Parking is on-site adjacent to the pavilions but is limited. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
