Event overview
MCW Lenape Runventure is a fully crewed, charity-focused running event organized by MissionCleanWater. The route covers 34 miles along the Lenape Trail, passing through 18 parks and 11 municipalities in Essex County. The route runs from Branch Brook Park in Newark to South Mountain Reservation in Millburn. Surfaces on the trail include pavement, gravel, and singletrack, with sections that pass through urban and forested areas.
Format and support
Participants may run solo (complete 34 miles) or join a relay team of 3 to 6 people. Solo entrants are provided full logistical support, portable aid stations, and day-of assistance. Relay teams may use portable aid stations but must provide their own transportation to and from checkpoints. The event provides shuttling to the Newark trailhead, portable aid stations every 3-7 miles, first aid supplies, pace cars that meet runners at checkpoints, and pre-event virtual prep sessions and personalized training plans.
Course and checkpoints
The course includes five checkpoints with resupplies for food, hydration, and layers. Distances between points are:
- Start to checkpoint 1: 5.23 miles (+376/-339 ft)
- Checkpoint 1 to checkpoint 2: 5.3 miles (+416/-277 ft)
- Checkpoint 2 to checkpoint 3: 5.7 miles (+588/-538 ft)
