McKay Hollow Madness

The McKay Hollow Madness Trail Run is the 19th edition of this event. It offers two distances: 25k and 12k. The courses consist mostly of single track trail.

The race start location is the John Scoble Memorial Pavilion on Monte Sano. Participants will run on sections of trail including Sinks Trail, Panther Knob, Stone Cuts, Mountain Mist, Goat Trail, Warpath Ridge, McKay Hollow, Arrowhead, and Natural Well Trail. At approximately 6.5 miles, the 25k route continues left, while the 12k route goes right to climb out of McKay Hollow on a section known as "Death Trail." The event is noted as a technical race with difficult climbs and descents. Conditions can be muddy and wet.

This is a cupless race; participants are required to carry their own handheld bottle or water bladder. Aid stations provide light fare. For the 25k, there are two aid stations: one at O'Shaughnessy Point (~5.1 miles) and one at the Trough Springs Trailhead (~9.8 miles). The 12k has one aid station.

Strict cutoff times are enforced at the aid stations for safety and volunteer logistics. Medical assistance is provided by HEMSI and the Huntsville Cave Rescue Team. Packet pickup is available on race morning.

A post-race finish line area offers food, water, and soda. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
