About the race
McCoy Flats Trail Events is a set of trail races held near Vernal, Utah, organized by Mad Man Races. The course uses several single track trails through the McCoy Flats Trail Complex a few miles southwest of Vernal. The terrain passes through desert scenery with spring desert flowers and wildlife such as antelope, bobcat, cotton tail rabbit, and mule deer.
The event offers multiple race distances:
- 15K
- 10K
- 5K
When a course record is broken, the runner who sets the new record receives a cash prize. Cash prizes are awarded separately for male and female course records at each distance. Current course records are listed as follows: 15K 1:18:04 (M), 1:29:46 (F); 10K 48:26 (M), 1:11:24 (F); 5K 27:18 (M), 37:02 (F). Cash prize amounts for setting a new course record are $50 for the 15K, $35 for the 10K, and $25 for the 5K.
