McCoy Flat Death Race
The McCoy Flat Death Race is an endurance running event held at the McCoy Flats Trail Head in Vernal, Utah. The main race format requires runners to complete 4.1 miles every hour on the hour; each lap must be finished within the hour or the runner is eliminated. Runners who fail to start exactly at the top of an hour are also removed from the competition. The event continues until a single runner remains.
Cash prizes are awarded by lap for the top finishers: the final runner receives $50 per lap completed, second place receives $20 per lap, and third place receives $10 per lap. All registered participants receive custom medals, swag bags, and race shirts; shirt guarantees apply for registrations completed by July 3, with extra shirts provided as available.
The course is an endurance loop set in the northeastern Utah desert. The race is listed as sold out, but an additional category was opened that allows later registration and the option to pick up a race shirt and medal at the recreation center at a later date. Bag pickup, including shirt and race bib, is scheduled for July 17 at Uintah Recreation (610 S Vernal Avenue) and on race morning at the McCoy Flats Trail Head.
