Mayor's 5K on the 5th Runway : 12th Annual
The Mayor's 5K on the 5th Runway is a road running event held on the 5th runway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in College Park, Georgia. The event marks its 12th anniversary and uses a USATF-certified 5K course that serves as a qualifier for the AJC Peachtree Road Race. Registration is limited to the first 2,000 participants.
Participants receive a commemorative T-shirt and medal. Timed and untimed entry options are offered; timed results are posted after the race and are used for awards and qualification purposes. Awards are given by net time for overall male and female finishers and for age-group winners in standard age bands beginning at 10 years old. Only timed runners are eligible for awards.
Because the course is on active airport property, all entrants are subject to security vetting and must present a government-issued photo ID that matches their registration name at race-day check-in. Registrations are nontransferable and nonrefundable. Only registered participants are allowed on airport property; spectators are not permitted.
The event provides shuttle service and parking at the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC); there is no public parking at the race site and MARTA is not an effective option for direct access. Specific rules limit items allowed on airport property (for example, only small fanny packs and a provided clear pouch for ID). A wheelchair and push-assist category is offered; push-assist helpers must register as timed or untimed participants. The event also offers a virtual 5K option with mailed shirt and medal, and includes sustainability initiatives such as shoe donation, compostable service ware, and on-site recycling.
