Maui Oceanfront Marathon
The Maui Oceanfront Marathon is a nonprofit community event that benefits local school teams, clubs, and other Maui nonprofit groups involved in producing the race. It is designated as the RRCA State Marathon and Half Marathon Championships.
The event offers multiple race distances:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 6 Miler
- 5K
- Thursday's Cookie Run
- Dinner Cruise event
The marathon course begins in the Shops at Wailea parking area on Wailea Iki Road, proceeds around the Shops and out the Marriott driveway, goes south about one mile before turning back at the Fairmont Hotel, then continues onto South Kihei Road through oceanfront Kihei Town. At about the 13 mile mark above Maalaea Bay the course turns left onto Highway 30 and continues oceanfront to outside Launiupoko Beach Park. The entire route is on asphalt and the road shoulder bike path, mostly 4 to 8 feet wide, with scenic pullouts and public beaches for spectators. The course was measured and certified in December 2023. Certification numbers include USA-2019-079 and USA-2019-080; USATF certification HI12400DT is valid until December 31, 2034, and the course can qualify runners for Boston.
HydraPak Speedcups are distributed at the starting line for runners to reuse during the race instead of single use disposable cups. Registration for 2027 is scheduled to open with a new registration company approximately February 20th. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
