Maui Oceanfront Marathon
The Maui Oceanfront Marathon is a community road race held on January 17, 2027, organized as a 501(c)(3) event that benefits local school teams, clubs, and other Maui nonprofit groups. The event includes multiple distances and associated activities such as a dinner cruise and community runs.
The full marathon is 26.2 miles and starts in the Shops at Wailea parking area on Wailea Iki Road. The course route passes around the Shops at Wailea, out the Marriott driveway, south one mile to a turnaround near the Fairmont Hotel, then proceeds onto South Kihei Road through oceanfront Kihei town. At about the 13-mile mark above Maalaea Bay the course turns onto Highway 30 and continues oceanfront to finish outside Launiupoko Beach Park. The surface is asphalt and shoulder bike path, generally 4 to 8 feet wide, with scenic pullouts and public beaches along the route.
The course was measured and certified in December 2023 by Doug Thurston (Certification numbers USA-2019-079, USA-2019-080) and holds USATF certification HI12400DT valid through December 31, 2034; it can be used to qualify for the Boston Marathon. HydraPak Speedcups are distributed at the start for runners to carry and reuse during the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
