Maui Oceanfront Marathon

The Maui Oceanfront Marathon is a 501 C 3 non-profit community event that benefits local school teams, clubs, and other Maui non-profit groups involved in the race. The event includes multiple race options and related activities.

The marathon course starts in the Shops at Wailea parking area on Wailea Iki Road, proceeds around the Shops, out the Marriott driveway, then south one mile to a turnaround at the Fairmont Hotel. Runners continue onto South Kihei Road through oceanfront Kihei Town, turn left onto Highway 30 at the 13-mile mark above Maalaea Bay, and follow the oceanfront to outside Launiupoko Beach Park. The entire course is on asphalt and on the shoulder bike path of the road, mostly between 4 feet and 8 feet wide. The route has many scenic pullouts and public beaches where family and friends can park and picnic.

The course was measured and certified in December 2023 by Doug Thurston. Certification numbers include USA-2019-079 and USA-2019-080 for AIMS and USATF certification HI12400DT valid through December 31, 2034. The course can be used to qualify for Boston. HydraPak Speedcups are distributed at the starting line for runners to carry and reuse during the race.
