Event overview
The Maui Oceanfront Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, January 18, 2026, on Martin Luther King weekend. It is the 18th running of the event and serves as the RRCA Hawaii State Marathon Championship. The event is organized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit that benefits local school teams, clubs, and other Maui non-profit groups. HydraPak Speedcups are distributed at the starting area for runners to reuse during the race.
Course and logistics
The marathon starts in the Shops at Wailea parking area on Wailea Iki Road and finishes outside Launiupoko Beach Park. The course goes around the Shops at Wailea, out the Marriott driveway, south 1 mile with a turnaround near the Fairmont Hotel, then proceeds onto South Kihei Road through Kihei town and joins Highway 30 above Maalaea Bay. The entire course is on asphalt and on the road shoulder bike path, mostly between 4 and 8 feet wide. The route includes oceanfront sections and public beaches with scenic pullouts for spectators. The course was measured and certified in December 2023. Certification numbers include USA-2019-079 and USA-2019-080 for AIMS, and USATF certification HI12400DT valid until December 31, 2034.
