Marquette Marathon
The Marquette Marathon is a race weekend held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, over the Labor Day weekend. The event program includes a full marathon, a half marathon, a marathon relay, the Wildcat 5K, and the Pebble Fun Run. The weekend also features a race expo and published information on bus service and on-course support.
The course is point to point, beginning in Ishpeming and following historic railroad corridors along the Iron Ore Heritage Trail. The route moves through wooded sections that change surface from asphalt to crushed limestone and back, then enters urban Marquette and runs alongside the shore of Lake Superior for much of the second half. A lakeshore loop appears in the closing miles, and the race finishes beside the Superior Dome on the Northern Michigan University campus.
In 2025 the race weekend saw over 1,200 participants, including 460 marathon runners, 596 half marathon runners, 15 relay teams of three, and 105 entrants in the Wildcat 5K. The course has a score of 100.92 and is presented as the fastest marathon course in Michigan and the 31st fastest marathon course in the United States.
