Angry Bear 5K

The Angry Bear 5K is a non-timed fun run held in Marquette, Michigan. Organized by the Ore Dock Brewing Company and Queen City Running Company, this fourth annual event serves as a fundraiser for Special Olympics Michigan Area 36. The race is part of the local spring festivities preceding the annual Festival of the Angry Bear.

The event features a single distance:

  • 5 km

The course follows an out-and-back route on the bike path along the Marquette shoreline. Participants start at the intersection of Spring Street and Lake Shore, just south of the Bell Tower. The path leads toward Picnic Rocks and returns to the same starting point.

While costumes are not mandatory, participants are encouraged to wear them. Race staff select five winners based on costume quality to receive prize bags containing items from the organizing companies. Winners can collect their prizes at the finish line or inside the Queen City Running Company building, depending on weather conditions.

All registrants receive a festival wristband for the main event. Participants under 21 years of age may exchange this wristband for a specific cup, as festival grounds have age restrictions for certain areas. Because the event is a community fundraiser focused on a fun-run format, no official timing is provided and there is no standard awards ceremony for speed. Bib pickup is available at the brewery and the running store in the days leading up to the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
