Marine Corps Marathon Weekend
The Marine Corps Marathon is an established running event managed by the U.S. Marines in Arlington, Virginia, and the nation's capital. It is recognized as the third largest marathon in the United States and one of the largest in the world. Often called "The People's Marathon," it is the largest marathon globally that does not offer prize money.
Participants can choose from several distances and associated events held across different dates and locations:
- Marathon (42.195 km)
- 17.75K (11.03 miles)
- 12K
- 10K
- 5K
- 1 mile
- MCM Kids Run
The 17.75K event takes place in March and commemorates the year the Marine Corps was founded. In May, the Historic Half and the Semper Fred 5k are held in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The Quantico 12k is held in August on the grounds of the Officer Candidates School, offering access to Marine leader training areas. The signature Marathon event occurs in October.
The event organization includes a Healthy Lifestyle Expo and various challenges, such as the Armed Forces Series Challenge. Runners who complete at least five marathons can join a dedicated runners club. The organization also operates an Adopt-A-Mile program to support community cleanliness along the course.
