Mantario Marathon
The Mantario Marathon is a two day stage event held September 26–27, 2026 in Whiteshell, MB on the Mantario Trail. The route totals about 64 km, split into two roughly 32 km days with an overnight camp at Moosehead Lake.
Participants are fully self supported. There is no entry fee, no organized aid, no event staff and no services at the overnight site. Competitors must carry all food, clothing, shelter and safety equipment needed for two days, including means to filter or purify water, navigation tools and first aid supplies. The organizer states the event is a Fat Ass style run with no official support.
The trail is unmarked for this event; runners must follow the Mantario Trail using a map, compass and downloaded GPX file. The route runs through boreal forest and the Canadian Shield, includes numerous water crossings, often wet and slippery conditions, and more than 1500 metres of total elevation loss and gain. The event notes frequent route finding challenges and wilderness camping with no services.
Event rules require self-sufficiency, assisting other participants if needed, packing out all garbage and prohibiting burning of waste. The event welcomes running, walking, hiking and fastpacking and lists categories as non-binary, female and male. Emergency response is by local EMS; participants are asked to carry and know how to use a satellite communicator if required. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
