Man Against Horse Race
Man Against Horse is an annual endurance event in Prescott, Arizona, featuring runners and endurance horses competing on shared trails. The 2026 edition is the 42nd running and offers three distance options with varied terrain and elevation.
Distances:
- 50 miles: loop over Mingus Mountain, about 7,300 ft gain and 7,300 ft loss.
- 25 miles: follows first 17.5 miles of the 50, about 3,300 ft gain and loss.
- Half marathon (13 miles): lollipop loop on Fain Ranch, about 800 ft gain and 800 ft loss.
The 50 mile course summits Mingus Mountain with a maximum elevation near 7,600 ft. Trail surfaces for the 50 and 25 mile courses are roughly 50% single track, 25% double track, and 25% dirt roads. The half marathon course is roughly 50% double track and 50% dirt roads and follows a smoother lollipop loop.
Terrain ranges from tall grasslands and high desert at lower elevations up into ponderosa pine forest higher on the mountain. The 50 and 25 mile events have runners and riders on course at the same time; the half marathon is the only event where runners and riders start separately. Registration closes October 13.
