Event Overview
The Man Against Horse Race is an endurance event with separate categories for runners and equestrian riders. It started in 1983 in Prescott, Arizona, from a bar bet between two locals. The race includes a children's free fun run.
Race Distances and Start Times
The event offers multiple distances:
- A 50-mile run and ride.
- A 25-mile run and ride.
- An Intro Ride.
- A Half Marathon run.
The race begins on a Saturday. There is an early start option at 5:30 AM for runners expecting to take over 12 hours, who must check in on Friday. The main start times are 6:30 AM for the 50-mile event and 7:30 AM for the 25-mile event.
Event Location and Logistics
The event hub is called Base Camp. Packet pickup and a pre-race briefing for all participants happen there on Friday afternoon. A banquet and awards ceremony take place at Base Camp on Saturday evening after the race. The final cutoff time is 7:00 PM.
Awards and Charitable Focus
A special award, the "Steel" Cup, is given to the best conditioned 50-mile horse. The event donates proceeds to two local charities: Bethany’s Gait, a horse rescue and therapeutic ranch, and the Yavapai County Food Bank.
