About the race
The Mackay Multisport Festival is a two-day triathlon and multisport event held each September along Mackay’s coastline. The program includes multiple race formats and family-focused activities, with sanctioned races covered by Triathlon Australia membership or a one day licence.
Event formats listed include:
- Triathlon, Duathlon, Aquathlon, Aquabike
- Open Water Swims
- Mini Kids Triathlon
The festival features a Standard Distance Triathlon with a 1.5 km swim / 40 km bike / 10 km run. The swim course runs from the beach 50 m out to the marker, along a straight line to the final marker at the surf club, and back 50 m to the beach. The bike course uses a closed-cycle route with substantial road closures along East Point Drive, Ron Searle Drive, Harbour Road and Cemetery Road; some sections have no overtaking zones and marshals enforce rules. Drink stations are provided on the run course and at the lighthouse Restaurant.
Race kit includes a swim cap, arm tattoo number, bike number sticker, run bib, event merchandise if ordered, and a timing chip which must be returned or a fee applies. Wetsuit use depends on a water temperature check; wetsuits are not allowed if water is 22 degrees Celsius or above. Presentations include cash prizes and random draw giveaways, with over $19,000 in cash prize pool across events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
