Macedonia Trail Race
Established in 2019, the Macedonia Trail Race takes place in Macedonia Brook State Park near Kent, Connecticut. The event utilizes the park's terrain, featuring single track trails, forest paths, and multiple viewpoints, including vistas of the Catskill and Taconic Mountains.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 12K: A single loop with approximately 1,870 feet of elevation gain.
- 25K: Two loops of the 12K course plus an initial out and back, totaling over 3,500 feet of elevation.
- 50K: A three-loop course with over 7,000 feet of elevation gain.
The courses include technical single track and a significant climb up Cobble Mountain. The 25K distance is recognized as part of the Blue Blazed Trail Running Series, which highlights the use of Connecticut's protected hiking trails.
The event operates as a cupless race to reduce waste, meaning runners are responsible for carrying their own hydration systems such as bottles or packs. Aid stations along the route provide water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks like pretzels and fruit. A post-race celebration at the park pavilion offers snacks including bagels and muffins. All finishers receive a medal and additional awards are presented to the top three overall male and female participants in each category.
