MacDill's Paws 4 Heroes 5K
MacDill's Paws 4 Heroes 5K takes place on April 12, 2026 in Tampa at Gadsden Park, 6901 S MacDill Ave. The event offers an in-person 5k Run/Walk and a 5k Virtual Run/Walk.
The course is timed with chip timing on an accurate but not certified 5k route that covers about two and a half loops of Gadsden Park. All participants, including virtual runners, receive a race shirt and a finisher's medal. Age group awards are given to first through third place in ten year age groups.
Proceeds benefit the Paws for Patriots program, which provides guide dogs for veterans with visual impairment and service dogs for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder at no cost to the veterans. The organizer notes that the cost to provide a service or guide dog can be tens of thousands of dollars.
Registration by March 29, 2026 guarantees a race shirt. There is no race day registration because the city does not allow sales in the park. Packet pickup will be available on site at Gadsden Park on race morning beginning at 7 AM. The virtual run operates on an honor system and shirts and medals for virtual participants are mailed after the event.
