Halloween Lyke Wake Walk night crossing
This event is a guided, supported night crossing of the Lyke Wake Walk on Friday 30 October 2026. The crossing goes west to east from Ravenscar to Osmotherley across the North York Moors National Park and takes place on Halloween night.
The traditional Lyke Wake Walk was created in 1955 to cross the moors at their widest and highest points. The full moorland route is about 40 miles; this organised crossing follows a route just under 39 miles between Scarth Wood Moor, Osmotherley and Ravenscar on the North Sea coast. The original challenge has no set path and must be completed between the two markers in a maximum of 24 hours. Groups on this crossing generally take 15–18 hours to complete.
The crossing is run as a guided and supported outing with transport provided to the start. Each group is led by two guides so walkers can be split by pace. Open group crossings have a maximum of 14 walkers and are usually 10–12. Support on the route includes water, sugar based snacks and blister plasters; participants receive a kit list and a training schedule. Organisers operate a WhatsApp group for each date and run free training walks in the region. Entry fees are listed for this crossing with standard and reduced rates for repeat participants, and bookings are managed through the listed event entry system.
