Course and logistics

The half marathon starts on Lake Shore Drive near the city beach and heads north toward Ludington State Park. At about 2 miles the route turns onto Piney Ridge Road for roughly 2 miles of paved, rolling hills between Lake Michigan dunes and Hamlin Lake. At about 4 miles the course enters a 1.8 mile trail through mature forest with some technical sections and short ups and downs. Runners then descend a sand dune, cross Hamlin dam, pass through the state park and return south along Lakeshore Drive near the Lake Michigan shoreline for about 6 miles before finishing at the city beach. Aid stations offering Gatorade and water are located approximately every mile up to the trail entrance and resume after the state park exit. There are no port-a-johns on the course. The route is mostly flat except for the forest trail and one hill near mile 12. Post-race refreshments are provided in the finish area tent. Downtown Ludington is within walking distance of the beach.

Awards and fun run details

All in-person participants receive a finisher medal and a long-sleeve tech tee at race day or packet pickup. Overall and Masters winners receive a custom photo plaque. Age group medals are awarded 1st-3rd in each distance; recipients must be present at the awards ceremony as medals will not be mailed. The 1 mile Fun Run/Walk is held in conjunction with local health partners; it is timed and finish times are shown on a large display, but no official results are posted. The event policy states there is no option for refunds or deferrals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
