About the race
Lucky Dip and Leftovers is a trail event held on January 3, 2027, in East Dean, Eastbourne (BN20 0DR). The in-person main race covers 10.5 miles over Beachy Head with approximately 1490 ft of ascent and descent. The course is largely off-road, listed as 99% trail and 1% tarmac. Minimum age to enter is 16.
After completing the in-person 10.5 mile run, each finisher draws a distance from a hat. The drawn distance becomes the total target for the challenge; any remaining mileage must be completed virtually, in the participant’s own time and at their own pace, to reach that drawn total. Possible lucky-dip distances for this event are:
- South Downs 100 mile
- Winter on the Downs 100 mile
- South Downs 100k
- Winter on the Downs 55 miles
- Winter on the Downs 50k
Participants have the Winter period from January 3 to March 20 to finish any required virtual mileage. Organisers will provide five Strava groups for tracking runs; links to those groups will be emailed before January and monitored so organisers can update results. As an alternative to the in-person option, entrants may choose to complete the chosen distance entirely virtually.
