Louisville Turkey Trot
The Louisville Turkey Trot is a community 5K event held in Downtown Louisville, Colorado on Thanksgiving morning. The event follows a 5K (3.1 miles) course that starts at Front Street and Pine Street and finishes near South Street and Front Street. The event is presented by AdventHealth Avista and benefits Community Food Share.
The event is stroller friendly; children in strollers do not need separate registration. Pets are not allowed due to insurance restrictions, but service animals are welcome. The race does not use bibs or chip timing. Water is provided before and after the run, and there are no on-course water stations for this distance. Some downtown streets are temporarily closed for the event. Free parking is available at several lots near Downtown Louisville.
The event combines community participation and fundraising. Registrations, donations, and sponsorship dollars support Community Food Share. Recent editions have raised substantial funds for local food assistance, with past totals exceeding $350,000 since 2013 and more than $92,000 raised in a recent year. Community Food Share reports that each dollar donated can provide approximately $6 worth of groceries. A post-race celebration follows the run and includes complimentary beverages for attendees 21 and over with valid ID. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
