ColderBOLDER 5K
The ColderBOLDER 5K was created in 2003 as a sister race to the BOLDERBoulder and is locally owned and operated. It is a December event that has grown in popularity and often sells out.
The course is a fast 5K that runs through the University of Colorado campus and finishes inside the university field house, where holiday festivities take place. The race is positioned as a seasonal event that takes place during the winter holiday period.
The ColderBOLDER uses a seeded race format with 14 race waves plus a Walking Wave. The first 13 races group runners by previous race times so competitors of similar ability race together; the 14th wave is an Open Race with no qualifying standard. The final Walking Wave is open to anyone who wants a festive stroll through the campus.
Top-three finishers in each of the seeded races receive Cold Medals. The event emphasizes a mix of timed competition and community activity, combining ranked heats with an open option and a walking wave. The 2026 ColderBOLDER is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th.
