Event Overview

The Longhorn Run is a student-led running event established in 2010. It takes place each spring on the University of Texas at Austin campus, known as the Forty Acres. The event is organized with support from UT Recreational Sports. It is open to students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the greater Austin community.

Participants can choose from two race distances:

  • 5K
  • 10K

Proceeds from the event benefit the Student Government and the RecSports Excellence Funds.

Registration

Registration for the event opens on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. The race day is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2026. Early bird pricing is available from February 18 to March 4, 2026, followed by standard pricing.

Getting Involved

The event is produced by a team of student leaders called the Longhorn Run Committee, who work under the guidance of RecSports professional staff. There is also an Ambassador Program where participants can help promote the event and receive complimentary race registration. Applications for both roles for the 2026 event are listed as closed.
