Longhorn Run
Longhorn Run is a student-led spring road race on the University of Texas campus, established in 2010. The event is organized with support and guidance from Recreational Sports and is presented as a campus tradition on the Forty Acres. It welcomes students, alumni, faculty, staff, and members of the greater Austin community.
The event offers two race distances:
- 5K
- 10K
Proceeds from the event benefit the Student Government and the RecSports Excellence Funds. For the 2026 edition, the race date is Saturday, April 18, 2026, and registration for Longhorn Run 2026 is listed as closed.
Volunteer involvement is a regular part of the event. Volunteer roles include assisting at packet pick-up and staffing race-day water stations. Volunteer registration for 2026 opened on February 20 and closed on April 1.
The Longhorn Run Collective is described as a community hub for race preparation. It offers complimentary group runs, speed workouts, and yoga sessions on campus, and those meetups are described as open to all fitness levels. A Longhorn Run Committee of student leaders plans and coordinates the event with guidance from RecSports staff, and a separate Ambassador Program supported outreach and race-week activities for 2026.
