Longhorn Run
The Longhorn Run is a student led spring race established in 2010 that takes place on the University of Texas Forty Acres. The event offers two distance options and brings together students, alumni, faculty, staff, and members of the Austin community. Recreational Sports provides support and guidance for the event, which is presented as a campus tradition.
Proceeds from the Longhorn Run benefit the Student Government and the RecSports Excellence Funds. The race day listed for 2027 is Saturday, April 17, and registration for the 2027 event opens on Wednesday, February 17, 2027.
A student Longhorn Run Committee organizes the event across the academic year, handling event planning, outreach, and training logistics with RecSports staff oversight. A Longhorn Run Ambassador program supports outreach and race day activities; ambassadors receive complimentary race registration. The Longhorn Run Collective offers a community hub of complimentary meetups that include group runs, speed workouts, and yoga sessions to support race preparation.
