48th Annual Lone Star Stampede - Texas Exes Houston Chapter
The Lone Star Stampede is a long-standing Houston tradition held at Brazos River Park in Sugar Land. Organized by the Texas Exes Houston Chapter, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the event brings together runners, walkers, and supporters of The University of Texas at Austin. Proceeds from the race are used to fund scholarships for students from the Houston area attending the university.
Participants can choose from several chip-timed running events on out-and-back courses within the park. The event includes options for both in-person and virtual participation.
The available distances include:
- 10K
- 5K
- Kids 1K Fun Run
- Virtual 10K
- Virtual 5K
The course consists of scenic routes through Brazos River Park. For the 5K event, strollers are permitted for participants who are walking. However, pets are not allowed on the race course. Ample parking is provided on-site at the park with event signage to guide visitors.
Registered participants in the 5K and 10K categories receive a technical short-sleeve shirt and a 2.5-inch belt buckle finisher medal. Additional awards are presented to the top male and female finishers, as well as the top three finishers in various age divisions. The event also features a spirit award for creative displays of Longhorn pride. The race is held rain or shine, with fees becoming a donation in the event of extreme weather cancellations.
