Event Overview
The Lone Star Stampede is a 47th annual community event in Houston. It is hosted by the Texas Exes Houston Chapter, a nonprofit organization. The event takes place at Brazos River Park in Sugar Land, Texas.
The primary purpose of the event is to raise funds. Proceeds support scholarships for Houston area students pursuing higher education at The University of Texas at Austin.
Race Details
The event features several race distances:
- 10K (chip-timed, out-and-back course)
- 5K (chip-timed, out-and-back course)
- Kids 1K Fun Run (short out-and-back route)
Virtual options are also available for the 5K and 10K distances.
Participant Information
All runners aged 14 and up receive an exclusive Longhorn Stampede Texas belt buckle medal (2.5 inches). Top male and female finishers in the 5K and 10K races receive larger (4-inch) belt buckle medals and a $100 gift card. Age group awards (top 3 finishers in each division) also receive belt buckle medals (3 inches).
Participants receive a Longhorn Dri-Fit technical short sleeve shirt, though it is not guaranteed after a specific date in January. Free training runs are offered leading up to the event.
Strollers are allowed for 5K walkers. Pets are not permitted on the course.
Additional Features
A raffle offers prizes such as a pair of boots from Republic Boots Co., a custom hat, and multiple gift cards from DICK's Sporting Goods. Entries can be earned by registering, volunteering, or completing early packet pickup. A "Longhorn Spirit Award" is open to runners, volunteers, and spectators.
Ample parking is available at Brazos River Park. The event will be held rain or shine. In case of unsafe weather, it will be canceled with no refunds or transfers; all fees will be donated to the scholarship fund. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
