Loggerhead Liftoff Beach Run
Loggerhead Liftoff Beach Run takes place on May 9, 2026 at the pier area of Sunset Beach, North Carolina. The event is organized to support the Sunset Beach Sea Turtle Patrol and to raise awareness for loggerhead conservation. Proceeds are designated for the Sunset Beach Sea Turtle Patrol.
The event features beach running on Sunset Beach, which is described as a flat, level course intended for running during low tide. Distances offered include:
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- Kid's Turtle Dash (50 yards, ages 12 and under, free)
Each finisher receives a custom turtle medal. Age group top three finishers receive SOHO first, second, and third place medals. Cash prizes are awarded for overall male and female top three and for masters male and female top three; masters are listed as 40 and older. Age groups are defined from 14 and under through 80 plus.
Registration pricing is tiered: early registration $40 until March 15, registration $45 from March 16 to April 13, and late registration $47 from April 14 to May 9. Packet pickup is scheduled for the day before and the morning of the event with locations to be announced.
Event notes include no strollers on course, no pets on course, music at participant discretion, adherence to island parking rules, no refunds, and no exchanges on race day. The Kid's Turtle Dash is free and may include an optional donation jar for the Turtle Patrol; there is no swag for that event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
