Event Overview

The Loggerhead Liftoff Beach Run is a running event on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. It is the second annual edition of this race. The event helps kick off the sea turtle season, with proceeds supporting the Sunset Beach Sea Turtle Patrol.

Race Details

The event features two race distances:

A 5K beach run.
A free Kid's Turtle Dash for children aged 12 and under.

The 5K course is described as a flat, level beach run that takes place at low tide. It starts at the pier located at 101 W Main Street in Sunset Beach.

Registration & Schedule

Packet pickup is scheduled for Friday evening and Saturday morning on the beach near the pier. The registration fee for the 5K increases closer to the race date, with early registration available until February 14, 2026.

Awards & Policies

All finishers of the 5K receive a custom turtle medal. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three overall male and female runners, as well as the top three masters (40+) runners in each gender. Age group awards are also presented.
