Limestone Rocks! Race Overview
The Limestone Rocks! event features timed races held at Limestone Park in Kankakee, Illinois. Participants can choose between two specific durations:
- 8-Hour Race
- 4-Hour Race
The event takes place on a 1.65 mile loop course. The terrain consists primarily of crushed limestone with some sections of asphalt. The course profile is approximately half flat and half hilly, including one short, steep downhill and one short, steep uphill. The maximum elevation change on the loop is 50 feet.
Timing and Scoring
Runners aim to complete as many full loops as possible within their selected time limit. After completing each loop, participants check in with a scorekeeper. Runners have the flexibility to take breaks between loops or continue immediately.
During the final 30 minutes of the race, a secondary 1/4 mile out and back loop is available for those who do not have sufficient time to complete a full 1.65 mile circuit. Scoring is determined by the total number of loops finished; partial loops are not included in the final count. In the case of a tie in loop totals, the participant who finished their final loop earliest is ranked higher.
Facilities and Support
A stocked aid station is located at the start and finish area of the loop, primarily offering individually wrapped items. Restrooms are available at this location, and there is a designated area for runners to set up personal base camps. All participants receive a finisher award. Net proceeds from the event are donated to the Kankakee Veterans Assistance Commission and Limestone Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
