Event details
The Winterfest event takes place on January 31, 2026, in Kankakee, Illinois. The start location is Small Memorial Park at 8th and Charles Street. The staging and packet pickup area is the Civic Auditorium at 803 S 8th Ave. The event includes the following distances:
- 5K run
- 1.6 mile fitness walk
Course and format
The 5K run is two loops of a course run on city streets that follow the perimeter of Small Memorial Park and Kennedy Upper Grade School. The 1.6 mile fitness walk is one loop of the same course. The finish will be timed with computerized results. The fitness walk is on the honor system and is intended for walkers only; anyone who plans to run any portion must register as a runner.
Fees, shirts, charity and awards
Registration fee options vary by date: through January 17 there is a no-shirt price and a with-shirt price; later pre-registration through January 30 uses the no-shirt price; a race day fee is listed for January 31. A $2.00 discount applies for members of KRRC or PSRR and for participants age 18 and under. Long-sleeved shirts (Dri-Fit or cotton) are guaranteed to pre-registrants who select the shirt option by January 17. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Salvation Army, and participants are asked to bring canned food or non-perishable donations. Pizza will be provided as a refreshment. Awards are given in running and walking divisions, with multiple overall, masters, and age-group prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
