Event Overview

The Lexington Lions Patriots Day 5 Mile Road Race is a historic running event in Lexington, Massachusetts. The 2026 edition marks the 112th annual occurrence of this race, which was first run in 1914. It is one of the oldest road races in the country.

Event Details for 2026

This year's event is held on a Saturday instead of the traditional Monday to coincide with the America 250 celebration. The entire town's Patriots Day festivities, including two expanded historical reenactments and a parade, are scheduled for the same day. The race has a strict participant cap of 1,000 runners, and registration is online-only with no race-day sign-ups. All finishers receive a special commemorative medal for the 250th anniversary of America.

Logistics

The start and finish line is at the crosswalk between Meriam Street and Cary Library. Packet pickup is available at Eagle Bank on April 16-17 and at Emery Park in Depot Square on race day. Proceeds from the event support the Journey for Sight - Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Foundation (MLERF), a cause the race has benefited for over four decades. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
