Silver Rush 50 Run
The Silver Rush 50 Run is a high-altitude endurance event held in the historic mining district of Leadville. The course primarily utilizes dirt roads originally established by miners, taking participants past various gold and silver mines. The primary event is an out-and-back route that reaches a maximum elevation of 12,024 feet.
Participants can choose from several distances:
- 50 miles: An out-and-back course with approximately 7,503 feet of elevation gain.
- 15 miles: A shorter version using the same course as the 50-mile race.
- 5 km: A distance specifically for junior runners aged 10-18.
The 50-mile race serves as a qualifying event for the Leadville Trail 100 Run, with 35 qualifier coins available based on performance and a lottery system. Athletes may also compete in the Silver King or Silver Queen challenge by completing both the 50-mile run on Saturday and the 50-mile mountain bike race on Sunday.
The event provides seven supplied aid stations offering water, energy gels, hydration mixes, and assorted foods. Strict cutoff times are enforced at various mile markers, including a total course cutoff of 14 hours for the 50-mile distance. Mandatory shuttles transport athletes and spectators from designated parking lots to the start and finish area at the base of Dutch Henry Tubing Hill.
