Leadville Firecracker 5K
The Leadville Firecracker 5K is an Independence Day running event held in Leadville, Colorado. Situated at an elevation above 10,000 feet, the city is known as the highest incorporated city in North America. The event provides a high-altitude setting for participants during the July 4 holiday.
Participants follow a 5 km (3.1 mile) course that both starts and finishes in downtown Leadville. The route is centered around the intersection of West 5th Street and Harrison Avenue. The event is open to both runners and walkers, and it concludes shortly before the local Fourth of July parade begins in the same area. Registration remains open until the day before the event.
Available event categories include:
- 5K for adults
- 5K for youth participants under the age of 18
Financial proceeds from the event are directed toward supporting local youth athletics and recreation programs in Leadville. These initiatives include activities such as Children's Fishing Day and supporting the local Nordic team. Awards are presented following the completion of the run.
