Leading Edge Take Heart Running Event
The Leading Edge Take Heart event takes place in Lakeland, Florida, featuring a variety of distances held at Lake Mirror. This edition marks the eighth year for the 5K distance and the introduction of the inaugural 10K race. The event serves as a benefit for Take Heart, an organization that supports orphans and widows in Kenya through initiatives centered on education and entrepreneurship.
Participants can choose from several event distances and formats:
- 10K (6.2 miles)
- 5K (3.1 miles) with professional chip timing
- 5K Walkers (3.1 miles) untimed for non-competitive participants
- Challenge (9.3 miles) involving both the 10K and 5K races
- Kids Run (1 mile) for children ages 3 to 10
The course for the kids' event circles Lake Mirror. Children participating in this specific category receive a shirt, a racing bib, and a medal. For adult participants, shirts are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, with sizes guaranteed only for those who register by a specific summer deadline.
There is no registration available on the day of the event. The races are held at South Lake Avenue, providing a central location for the local running community to participate in these distance challenges. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
