LDWA Rodent Wriggle 2026
The Rodent Wriggle returns for its third edition, offering a choice of three distances through the Mid Suffolk countryside. The event name reflects the route's path as it meanders along the upper reaches of the River Rat. Participants follow a scenic and undulating course that features up to 10 historic churches, including notable landmarks such as the thatched Harleston Church and the Angel roof at Rattlesden Church.
The available distances include:
- 13.5 miles (21.7 km)
- 23 miles (37 km)
- 31.5 miles (50 km)
The two shorter routes branch off from the main 31.5 mile course at specific intervals before merging back to finish at the same location. The event uses a scan-and-go system for tracking progress. Checkpoints are distributed along the routes: the short course has two, the medium has three, and the long course has four.
Participants must be self-sufficient regarding navigation by downloading the route description and GPX files from the official website prior to the event, as well as providing their own mug for drinks. The entry fee covers refreshments at all checkpoints, including snacks, drinks, and a light meal at the finish. Dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available. All finishers receive a certificate.
The event starts at the Needham Market Community Centre. Parking is available on-site for the longer distances, while short-course participants are directed to nearby free parking at Station Yard or Needham Lake. Dogs are permitted if kept on leads and covered by liability insurance, though they are not allowed inside the halls. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
