Rodent Wriggle 2026
The Rodent Wriggle is an event hosted by the Norfolk and Suffolk branch of the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA). Returning for its third edition, the event features a course that follows the upper reaches of the River Rat through the Mid Suffolk countryside. The routes consist of undulating terrain and pass through rural areas, including sightings of 10 historic churches along the longest distance.
Participants choose between three available distances:
- 31.5 miles (50 km)
- 23 miles
- 13.5 miles
The routes are designed so that the shorter distances branch off from the main path at various points—7 miles for the short route and 12.5 miles for the medium route—before eventually returning to the main route to reach the finish.
The event operates on a "scan and go" basis. Registration and the start/finish area are located at the Needham Market Community Centre. Participants are required to bring their own mug and must download a route description or GPX file prior to the event, as no paper descriptions are provided on-site. Necessary maps include OS Explorer 211 or Landranger 155.
Entry fees include drinks throughout the course, toast and biscuits at the start, snacks at designated checkpoints, and a light meal at the finish. Depending on the route distance, there are between two and four checkpoints available. Dogs are permitted on leads, provided they have liability insurance, but they are not allowed inside the halls. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
