Rodent Wriggle 2026

The third Rodent Wriggle organised by Norfolk & Suffolk LDWA is a waymarked walking and running event based at Needham Market Community Centre, School Street, Needham Market, IP6 8BB. The route follows the upper reaches of the River Rat through Mid Suffolk countryside and passes ten historic churches on the longest route.

Available routes:

  • 13.5 miles, branches from the main route at 7 miles.
  • 23 miles, branches from the main route at 12.5 miles.
  • 31.5 miles (50k), follows the full main route.

The event is described as a gentle undulating scenic route. Notable churches on the longest route include Great Finborough (with a spire), Harleston Church (thatched) and Rattlesden Church (with an angel roof). The event operates a scan and go system.

Checkpoints and support: the short route has 2 checkpoints, the medium route 3 checkpoints and the long route 4 checkpoints. Checkpoint opening and closing times must be observed; late arrivals at specific checkpoints may be instructed to take a shorter route. Refreshments are provided at all checkpoints; participants are offered drinks, snacks and a light meal at the finish. Vegetarian options are available and some gluten free and vegan choices will be offered; participants with specific dietary needs are advised to bring additional food.

Practical information: route description and GPX must be downloaded beforehand and the printed description kept in a waterproof cover. Recommended maps are OS Explorer 211 or Landranger 155. Participants should bring their own mug. Dogs are allowed on leads but not inside halls except assistance dogs; dogs must have appropriate liability insurance. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Parking is available at the community centre for long and medium routes; short route parking is in Station Yard or at Needham Lake.

Entries: LDWA members £16, non-members £26. Entries are limited to 165, there are no on-the-day entries, entries are not transferable and substitutions are not permitted. A certificate is awarded to all finishers. Retirement should be recorded at a checkpoint and a marshal informed; return transport is provided only from checkpoints.
