Arthur Whiston 5 Mile, Colchester
The Arthur Whiston 5 Mile is an annual road and multi terrain race organised by Colchester Harriers AC. It began in 2025 and for 2026 forms part of the Essex County Road Running Grand Prix and the Essex County 5 mile road championship. The event honours the memory of Arthur Whiston on the second anniversary of his passing.
The course starts at Abbeygate with entrants assembling on St John’s Green, follows roads and wide footpaths around Colchester, includes a short narrow section through the Serenity Gardens, and finishes on Abbey Field behind the Garrison Track. The route is predominantly traffic free, mostly flat, and described as offering potential for five mile personal bests.
Profits are shared between the Essex Wildlife Trust and Beat. Included in the event are trophies and prizes for leading runners and championship medals for eligible Essex County Championship entrants. Championship eligibility requires a current England Athletics affiliation with a valid URN, Essex birth or at least nine months residency, and no participation in another county championship in the same calendar year. Team scoring and age-category medals are awarded under the championship rules.
Deferrals to the following year are not permitted. Event information is sent to registered entrants prior to race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
