About the race
The Runway Run is a road running event held at Laredo International Airport using the Old Airport Terminal and Signature Flight Support Building at 4805 Maher Ave, Laredo, TX. The event includes two distance options:
- 5K
- 1 mile
The course runs among active airport runways and offers views of commercial and general aviation aircraft during takeoff and landing. A display of airport equipment will be available for photos, and snacks and drinks are provided inside the Signature Flight Support Building after the races. The event is chip timed and the first 500 registrants receive a shirt, a finisher medal, and a timing bib.
Awards include overall male and female round trip vouchers provided by Allegiant Airlines and age group awards for male and female categories including 14 and under through 70 plus, plus a category for other abilities. Entry fees vary by registration period and by participant type; fees are nonrefundable but registrations may be transferred to another participant. City employees and first responders have reduced fees with approved ID.
Event rules include no strollers on the runway, no skateboards, rollerblades, bikes, pets, or selfie sticks on the runway, and requirement to remain on the course. Bibs must not be bent and must be worn on the front center chest. Waivers are required. Free parking is available at El Metro Park and Ride on Hillside Road and Thomas Avenue.
